Neurodiversity

Debbie Radzinsky, LCSW Psychotherapist in Austin Texas and New York: Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is a natural variation in how people think, process, and experience the world. For many neurodivergent individuals, navigating environments that were not designed with their needs in mind can lead to overwhelm, misunderstanding, or exhaustion from constant adaptation.

My approach to therapy is neurodiversity-affirming and focused on understanding each person’s unique neurological patterns. Therapy offers a supportive space to explore these experiences while developing strategies that support emotional wellbeing and authentic self-expression.

I offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy in New York, Austin, as well as online sessions.

Working with Adults

I work with adults who identify as ADHD, AuDHD, autistic, PDA-profiled, or otherwise neurodivergent (this work is a central part of neurodiversity-affirming therapy). Many neurodivergent adults come to therapy after years of adapting to environments that were not designed for the way their minds and nervous systems naturally function.

This can sometimes show up as emotional intensity, executive functioning challenges, chronic self-criticism, burnout, or exhaustion from masking in order to meet neurotypical expectations. Communication and relationships may also feel difficult when these experiences are misunderstood.

In therapy, we focus on understanding your unique neurological patterns and developing strategies that support the way your brain naturally operates. This approach supports emotional regulation, self-understanding, and daily functioning. This work can also strengthen emotional regulation, support identity integration, and help you reconnect with a more authentic sense of self.

Supporting Parents and Families

Parenting or supporting a neurodivergent child—or an adult child—can be both meaningful and challenging. Many parents seek guidance in understanding their child’s neurological and emotional needs while also managing their own feelings of overwhelm or uncertainty.

Therapy can help families improve communication, deepen understanding of neurodivergent experiences, and build environments where everyone’s nervous system feels safer and more supported. Neurodiversity-affirming therapy helps create more supportive and understanding family environments.

This work focuses on supporting both individual wellbeing and healthier family dynamics.

Nervous System Safety and Understanding Your Neurobiology

A core part of this work involves developing greater awareness of your nervous system. Many neurodivergent individuals carry tension or hypervigilance after years of adapting to environments that did not fully understand them.

Therapy can help you recognize patterns of activation, regulate emotional intensity, and better understand how your brain and nervous system respond to everyday experiences. This is an important part of therapy for neurodivergent individuals.

The goal is not to change who you are, but to develop strategies that work with your neurobiology so you can move through life with greater grounding, clarity, and ease. Therapy supports you in living in a way that feels more aligned, supported, and sustainable.
